  2. I assigned my kids as authorized users on my credit card but did NOT give them the credit card. Now at the ages of 18 and 19 their credit score is 775.

  3. Financial Aid Specialist here. Cosigning is a bit of a misnomer in most cases; especially for undergraduate students. For example, Parent PLUS loans are there so DEPENDENT students have the ability to take out additional funding to cover their needs. In actuality the parent/guardian are taking out loan funding on behalf of the student, and aren't actually cosigning anything. If the parent/guardian isn't approved, they can get an endorser to help cosign it at that point. I must stress that these are credit based. INDEPENDENT Undergraduate students do not have this option.

Likewise, Graduate students can take out additional loan funding known as Graduate PLUS loans themselves, or seek out an endorser to help be approved for one. These are also credit based.

Cosigners can also be used when consolidating student loans as well (which is most useful for students with very old loans with higher interest rates)

Edit: for clarification this is regarding federal student loans not private loans through a private bank

  6. School Prestige isn't that big of a deal.

When I go to the Doctor I don't care where they got their degree FROM, so long as they graduated.

  12. For students who graduated or have a steady job, there's a program called "revised pay as your earn". The plan offers depending on how much money you make per year, 0% on interest accuring for subsidized loans and 50% on interest accruing on unsubsidized loans for the next 3 years. After the 3 years, all student loans are 50% off until the life of the loan or after 25 years, forgiven. Also, if you pay your student loans, you can get a tax deductible for up to $2500 only for all the interest you paid during the year. And lastly, depending on you, by arranging auto debit, you may get .25% off on you interest student loan on top of everything. To ray and justo, love everything you guys do, you guys are awesome.
