“WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Education and learning Division under President Donald Trump and Secretary Betsy DeVos has stopped cancelling the pupil-mortgage financial debt of people defrauded by failed for-profit educational facilities and individuals borrowers encounter mounting interest and other burdens, its inspector common claimed on Monday.

DeVos is trying to find to redo the procedure for cancelling the money owed of people who attended Corinthian Colleges, which collapsed in 2015 amid govt investigations into its publish-graduation prices, and other failed educational facilities.

In the ultimate days of his administration, President Barack Obama permitted regulations speeding up the financial debt cancellations. DeVos has delayed implementing individuals regulations, expressing they would generate sizeable expenditures for taxpayers.”

  4. The CEO of one entity, SM, Has got two private jets, Mansions and boat, lavish life style, don´t you think?! By stealing nickels and dimes of struggling people in this country. They have established a profit center to make fortune on the defrauded student loans across the country. This business practice has been going on too long, and it is time to stop this abusive business practice, which evidently orchestrated by the special interest, lobbyist, to manipulate these fraudulent loans. Not allowing to be discharged by Bankruptcy protection. What a sham . . .

  13. I doubt if I ever would have fallen for any of these scams. I am a very cynical person and assume every transaction involves someone trying to screw me. Unfortunately not everyone is as cautious as I am. The government should have been out ahead of these scam schools and shut them down before they could do much damage. But there is something called the Republican party and that is why the problem exists.
I went to college on a student loan and payed it back 2 years ahead of time. But I went to a state university in Louisiana so the tuition and thus loans were small and manageable. The last Republican governor, Jindal, cut state support of higher education 70% so the tuition and loans have gone up considerably. Republicans must want the middle class dead. The 2018 election marks 30 years of my not voting Republican. I should get a chip.

  14. People should not be allowed to get a loan unless they have collateral or a co-signer. And the co-signer should not be the U.S. tax payer. Of course, if you give uneducated people access to large amounts of money in the form of a loan, they will blow it on all kinds of scams. They are not responsible enough or smart enough to be able to discern a scam school from a legit school. The scam schools rely upon the availability of credit to this group of people. If the credit did not exist, neither would the scam schools. Also, let's get real here, accredited state universities are also scamming students; it's not just fake unaccredited colleges. In fact, state universities are probably much worse than fake colleges because it is very difficult to discredit a state university which makes it easier for them to perpetrate their scams on unsuspecting students. But again, if credit was not widely available then college tuition would plummet, kids who have no business going to institutions of higher education would join the workforce straight out of high school and the kids who did go to college would be less inclined to waste time and choose worthless majors.

  16. No personal responsibility for the debt they willingly agreed to. Instead forcefully take the money from those that worked and produced and give to those who lived off the loans for 4 years. No thanks I don't want to encourage such parasitic behavior.

  23. What about daddy loan forgiveness? Trump received a "little loan" of $1 million from his father to start in business. The Washington Post said Trump actually borrowed $9 million from his father. Hell, anyone can be successful if they have $9 million to invest.
Trump was born rich and does not give a shit about anyone else.

  24. I think they're confusing the word "stipend" with "waiver."  In the two states I've attended grad school in, my monthly GA/TA stipends were always counted as taxable income.  That part isn't new.  What is new is the prospect of counting the tuition/fee waiver as taxable income as well.
